Review: Spy x Family

Final rating: A Tier

Plot: The series is about Twilight, a very famous spy, who is given a new mission to get close to a key politician, but to do that, he needs to form a fake family and he ends up without knowing with a kid that can reads people’s mind and a wife that is an assassin.

Opening: The OP song is ok. The visuals are good.

Art: The art is good.

Animation: The animation is good.

Characters: The characters are the most interesting part of the series. The family is pretty much the best combination with Anya being the center and their support. Anya is pretty cute and I just found recently that Anya’s VA was voicing Dai from Dai no Daibouken, the voice is very different and even with other characters that I knew she was voicing.

Story: The spy theme has been used a lot of times and usually they work alone or in team with other spies but in this series, Twilight who is very talented spy but for this mission, he will be dependent on Anya’s results.
Other elements that makes the series more interesting is the lack of information between that characters (except for Anya) and the low probability relations (like Yor being an assassin or her brother being part of the Intelligence), which it brings the battle a lot closer.

Ending: The song and visuals are good. I think the OP and ED songs are not the strong point of the series.

Comment: Going a little against the series popularity, I think the series is pretty good but I think these episodes were the start of the story and was more focused on the comedy part instead of the strong point of the series which is the plot. I was surprised that the series was only 12 episodes but it made sense that the second season was announced.
This series got the potential to become pretty big.

Review: Cue! 12 ~ 24

These episodes were about the development of their career.

The second part was mainly focused on the other girls. To be honest, it wasn’t as interesting as the first part since everything went smoothly and in general, the drama wasn’t that impactful. Most of the episodes are single episode stories, which it makes sense if you want to give some development to every character.

Ironically, the voice acting was the only thing that keeping the series from dropping too much.

The most interesting part was the last 2 episodes which was the end of the recording of the anime and the “new start”.
For the end of the recording, I think the episode structure and the character choices was perfect.
For the last episode, it brings a mix of feelings because everything is going smoothly and then there’s a big bonk to all the girls but the final is pretty good.

The OP and ED songs and visuals are better than the first half.

Overall, the series was (probably) a good way to introduce the seiyuu job to the audience with the good and “bad” sides of it. For me, the series peak was with the anime recording but it shows you that they can do pretty much anything that is related to voice. I’ll keep the B Tier as final rank.

Review: Gaikotsu Kishi-sama, Tadaima Isekai e Odekakechuu

Final rating: B Tier

Plot: The series is about a guy that is isekai’d into a game as his character, who is an OP skeleton, and his low profiled adventures while bringing justice.

Opening: The OP song is pretty good. The singing style is very rare to find on anime songs nowadays. I wonder what is the reason of adding SE to the OP, for me the song itself is enough and the sound effects makes it a little hard to enjoy the song. The visuals are good.

Art: The art is good.

Animation: The animation is ok but they use a lot of CG. I could understand while fighting but they use it a lot of other situations, even the ending.

Characters: One thing that they knew beforehand was that Ponta would be the most popular character of the series. Ariane is for fanservice and Arc looks like a copy of Ains from Overlord. Even the voice type and the voices between the “appearance” and “real” are the same.

Story: The first episode has a pretty strong impression, since they warn you about disturbing scenes (almost every episode has one scene (most of them fanservice (if can consider as disturbing) or just some blood)) while the disturbing scene is happening (and the most disturbing) so it’s weird a series to start with that.
The story itself is the usual RPG style with some political stuff and as usual, OP MC.

Ending: The song is good but the choice of making the visuals with CG was a horrible choice. Some days ago, I ended up watching the practice dance of the song. Dialogue+ dances are pretty good.

Comment: The series is the usual nice to watch if you got nothing to do, Ponta is pretty much the main reason to watch the series (especially the end with the Ponta toy (I want to buy it)). As an adventure and comedy series is good.

Review: Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road 01 ~ 11

The series is about Menou, a priest that in the shadows is an assassin whose mission is to kill all the people that are isekai’d into their world to avoid their ability going berserk. One day, she meets Akari, a girl that was isekai’d but because of her ability, Menou can’t kill her so they go into an adventure to find a way to kill her with the pretext of trying to find a way to send her back to Japan.

If you didn’t read the synopsis of the series before watching, you will totally fall into the bait in the first episode. Totally shocked and it was a good way to give a strong impression.

The story is a little unique for isekai series. The first 6 episodes felt like it was the introduction for the real story of the series and I liked the first half more than the second one, it got a more simple and straightforward story. In the second half, it falls because of the lack of a short term objective besides from the searching a way to kill Akari but at least the fights are good.

Akari’s voice (CV: Kahara Moe) is very similar to Aoi Yuuki’s with some differences. Can be a little annoying if she’s shouting for a long time.

The art and animation are pretty impressive. There are some CG which is ok, except for the one in episode 11, that one was ugly.

One of the most impressive part of the series is the OST, usually I don’t put too much attention into it but in this series, the music got a big role. I loved the combination between the acoustic guitar (on fire) with the piano, is rare to see those instruments playing together.

The OP song and visuals are good. I’m not very fan of Mili’s music style but I have to admit that she got some good songs and pretty talented to be able to sing I think in 4 different languages. The ending song and visuals are pretty good.

The series got a strong start but falls a little in the second half but it recovers a little after the action part. Just noticed that next episode is the last but probably the conclusion is easy to predict, I just hope that the second half is related to the main story. I’ll start the series in the B Tier.

Review: Healer Girl 01 ~ 09

In a world where there is a job called “Healer” where they use the power of the song to heal injuries and light illness. The series is about Kana, Hibiki and Remi, 3 apprentice working under a very famous Healer and their path to become officially Healers.

The plot is very simple, girls singing to heal people, so at least, the girls have to be good singers. There are not strong vocals but they are good singers as it should be. I was surprised by Kana’s singing. I have heard Karin’s singing before (Kana’s VA) in another series but her singing in this series was different and it’s pretty good.

There some interesting elements in this series, like Healer’s apprentice having a lot of restrictions about using their healing powers (it has a very similar treatment to doctors) and the fact that they are using the theory of how music affects people.

The series got some musical elements, like singing instead of talking which I’m not very fun of that genre. I prefer when they are doing the healing and singing an actual song.

The art and animation is pretty good. I excels when they are in the healing process.

The OP and ED songs and visuals are very good.

Before watching the series, I watched some videos in Youtube where the main cast sung with just a piano. It has a different feeling since the instrumental part is simple and you can focus more on their singing. I’ll start the series in the B Tier.

Review: Aharen-san wa Hakarenai 01 ~ 10

Raidou, who at the start of high school decides to make some friends and ended up being friends with the person sitting next to him: Aharen, a loli that speaks in infrasound. The series is basically their daily school life.

I wasn’t expecting anything from this series, but I was surprised that this is better that I thought. The comedy is good and sometimes hard to predict.

Probably some of the points that makes the series funnier is Raidou’s imagination. After being defeated several times by Reina, he tends to overreact to what Reina is trying to do or have high hopes that Reina has master everything possible.

From Reina, is difficult to predict what she’s got at. It seems that when you think that she’s good at it, she sucks hard and vice versa. Her family is very unusual and pretty funny too, I imagine them to be different versions of Reina.

About the teacher that dies every time, I wonder if her saying “Ahare” or something like that is a pun related to the series.

The art and animations are good.

The OP and ED songs and visuals are good. The OP song is very catchy for some reason.

The series is a good light romantic comedy series to have fun watching. I think this is the first series that showed the fidget spinner thing that was very popular some time ago. I’ll start the series in the B Tier.

Review: Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari S2 01 ~ 09

This is the second season of the adventures of the shield hero in a fantasy world.

Being one of the most anticipated series of this season, I’d say at least for the first half was a total disappointment.

The first half about the tortoise spirit thing was a good idea for a little arc to refresh the memory about some stuff that happened last season but half of the season being about it was too long. It looked like they couldn’t be sure if they properly killed the tortoise after so many mechanics about how to kill it.
Later on, is revealed that it is the introduction for the main arc of this season. I think this arc should have been 3 episodes.

The second arc of this season is looking a lot better and got some interesting things like loli Raphtalia. This arc feels a little like a reset of the series, it seems that they are trying to recover what Naofumi felt or was treated in the first episodes of the series (which it was probably the thing that made the series so popular) with the only difference of not being alone this time.

The quality looks as same as the previous season except for the CG tortoise.

The OP song is ok, the ED song is pretty good and the visuals for the OP and ED are good.

The series got a very bad start but with the second half starting to become more interesting. It has a lot of potential but since the season will end on episode 13, I don’t think that Naofumi and his party will go back this season. I’ll start the series in the B Tier.

Review: Dragon Quest – Dai no Daibouken (2020) 59 ~ 78

These episodes were about what happened after the battle against Vearn, the preparation to invade Vearn’s palace and the invasion.

For what happened after the battle and their preparation it was ok, it took lots of episodes since they had to prepare for the final battle against Vearn. The most interesting part was Popp’s trouble to make the pendant shine and the loose of his confidence. I think he’s the character with more development in the series.

For the invasion, it was better than I expected with lots of battles and probably stalling as many episodes as possible for the final battle against Vearn. I wonder how they will fight against the last boss after all those fights.

There is something that happens in the invasion of Vearn’s palace which is very shocking. Without spoiling, I’ve got my questions if that was a good or a bad move since that was a double-edge situation which could throw away part of the plot of the series, so it depends on how the viewer is convinced by the reason or not.

I’m still looking forward for the rest of the battle regardless of that, they have been stalling with so many different secondary battles but at least are not that boring. I’ll keep the A Tier.

Review: Tensai Ouji no Akaji Kokka Saisei Jutsu

Final rating: B Tier

Plot: The series is about the story of Wein (a genius in various aspects) who becomes the ruler of Natra, a small country and how he expands Natra’s infuence.

Opening: The song is pretty good, it has a nice duo. The visuals are so standard but it makes a pretty good job on presenting what happens in the series. Some visuals and transitions are better after understanding the series and if you’re starting the series, it feels that there are tons of characters.

Art: The art is good.

Animation: The animation is surprisingly good, even if the action wasn’t the main point of the series, I appreciate that they didn’t use CG for the soldiers.

Characters: The characters doesn’t have too many develop, except for Falanya (her voice acting made the character better) but is really interesting the interaction of Wein, Ninym and Lowellmina. It looks like those are the real political fights.

Story: The title is self explanatory (“The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt” in case you don’t know the meaning). If I had to add some stuff, is really important to really understand the map, the countries and what’s happening to increase the enjoyment of the series because is not that easy to understand, you can still somehow understand if you don’t want to pause or rewind but the only clear part is that Wein is a genius. For me, the most funny part was the accidents that were pretty stupid but ruined Wein’s plan.

Ending: The ending song and visuals are good.

Comment: As being the competitor of “How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom”, I was expecting something different since the Realist Hero didn’t seem that realistic (at least the first season). However got some mixed feelings since I didn’t try to fully understand the situation (probably would be A Tier if I tried), but it still got good and funny parts, so would be a good watch for anyone that likes strategy and decision making. Sometimes it feels that it’s trying to deny the romance route.

Review: Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai S3 01 ~ 07

This is the 3rd season of the Kaguya-sama series with usual romantic comedy.

I’m pretty impressed that after 3 seasons, the series can keep the comedy being funny. The cast does a good job too, especially Kaguya’s. The most surprising thing is that they haven’t added any new character yet (if I remember correctly).

For the story, there hasn’t been many new stuff except for Hayasaka starting to rebel against Kaguya or some hints of what could be the climax of this season. The only weird thing was the episode about rap.

The OP song is good as always. I was researching and found that the girl that is “singing” in the OP too is different every season, which I found it a little weird.
The visual is good but for me is the worst until this season. What I liked from previous seasons was that they were telling a story in the visuals related to the main plot of the series but in this season, it looks like the standard OP of any series.

The ending song and visuals are good (even the rap one). Not very fond of the art style but still good.

Overall, the season has been almost full comedy. I wonder if one season is equal to one year, if it’s like that, this should be graduating this year, so it would be related to the potential climax story. I’ll start the series in the S Tier.
